Retention. It’s a single word with host of challenges that marketers across the retail industry try to solve on a daily basis. And for good reason:

Returning visitors spend nearly twice as much money online than new visitors— and do so despite making up less than half of all ecommerce sessions. And while talk of retaining visitors is often focused on the “how,” the discussion also needs to include the “when” and the “who.”

For this issue, we sampled more than 2.5 million ecommerce sessions in the first quarter of 2017 to explore these variables and how they impact retention.
